Incorporating Botox Into Your Regular Beauty Routine
A healthy diet, regular sunscreen use, and drinking plenty of water are essential for keeping your skin healthy. However, you don’t have to restrict your chances of aging gracefully to hoping for the best. Botox® is a minimally-invasive treatment that works to address fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure is beneficial for any anti-aging routine, helping you require less maintenance over time.
At Rochester Laser and Wellness Center, Thomas Nabity, Jr, MD, specializes in combating early signs of aging with Botox as a preventative measure.
What is Botox?
Using thin needles with botulinum, Dr. Nabity injects the solution into the problem areas on your skin. The treatment is nonsurgical and meant to prevent your nerve cell signals from reaching your muscles. When muscles in your face contract, they create fine lines in delicate areas like around your mouth and eyes. Over time, wrinkles begin to deepen and become difficult to erase.
Botox works by smoothing your skin and stopping your muscles from contracting, causing you to make certain facial expressions. While the treatment does not remove wrinkles altogether, it targets dynamic wrinkles that form when you laugh, squint, or frown. Small amounts of Botox can lower your risks for developing wrinkles if administered over a more extended period.
What to expect from the procedure
Before the procedure begins, you consult with Dr. Nabity to determine if this treatment option is right for you. He proceeds by mapping out your areas of concern and marking the injection sites. The doctor may provide you with an ice pack to slightly numb each of the areas. Injecting a thin needle with the solution is the final step of the process.
When the treatment is over, you may notice redness, discomfort, or raised bumps around the injection site. These side effects fade in a few hours, and there is little to no downtime. Because severe side effects are rare, you should contact our office immediately if you’re experiencing adverse symptoms.
Possible risks and side effects
Because Botox is a safe and effective treatment option, there are not many risks associated with the process.
Some side effects may include:
- Headaches
- Dry mouth
- Swelling or bruising around the injection site
- Nausea
- Crooked smile
- Droopy eyelids or eyebrows
Consult with Dr. Nabity if you’re experiencing adverse symptoms that last beyond a couple of days or become unmanageable.
