Start Laser Hair Removal Now for a Bathing-Suit Ready Body
At the start of every new year, most of us begin to think about changing our lifestyles with exercise and eating healthier. That’s why an incredible 12% of all gym memberships are sold just after the New Year. Part of the reason is due to the upcoming spring vacation season where everyone wants to ditch the winter months for warmer climates.
And if you want to really look your best in swimwear, you should be thinking of ways to remove unwanted hair. Rather than doing the shaving and waxes, maybe it’s time to try laser removal.
If you want to remove unwanted body hair to be ready for the summer, then you want a team of specialists to do it safely and effectively. Dr. Thomas Nabity, Jr. and the team at Rochester Laser and Wellness Center have the specialized experience to help you reach those goals.
What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a procedure where amplified light (lasers) is used to remove unwanted hair. The light is converted to concentrated heat, which affects the hair follicles and makes removing hair simpler. This effectively targets unwanted hair without shaving or a bikini wax, usually used for hair on legs, armpits, shoulders, back, chin and the bikini area. The effects are long lasting, but require multiple sessions, depending on the removal area.
What is the procedure?
Before the procedure and after consultation, you will be expected to avoid sunlight, blood thinning medications, and other hair removal options, except shaving. The target area will likely be shaved just before the procedure. You’ll wear special goggles, and topical anaesthetic may be used to reduce discomfort.
A handheld laser is held against the skin and a cooling gel is commonly used to protect the skin. The laser beam with go through the skin to the follicles, and the heat from the beam inhibits hair growth. The sensation is often compared to a warm pinprick. The time for the procedure will vary depending on the area covered, and could be a few minutes or up to an hour.
What can you expect after?
Redness and swelling for the first few hours after the procedure is normal, and ice can be used if necessary to reduce those issues. A steroid cream may also be applied. Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds for six weeks. The hair in the treated areas will shed over a period of days or weeks, and repeated treatments will be necessary. Long term maintenance treatments for hair removal can be discussed, based on your individual needs and results.
